How to Clean Dental Implants Properly

Reports show that dental implants are effective 98% of the time. This makes them one of the most successful dental procedures available that you can have. But maybe you’re unsure what dental implants are. That’s why we’re here to help you learn all about dental implants, the process involved, and how they are used for dental care.

What is a Dental Implant?

A dental implant is a metal structure that’s added on to the front of your teeth and fits perfectly between the jaw and below your gums within the mouth. Your teeth can then be replaced by the dentist once the implant has been fitted.

How Dental Implants Work

Dental implants offer strong support to your jaw whereby artificial teeth can be placed in. They sit nicely within your mouth and allow you to talk and chew your food as normal without any issue. They give your teeth a natural feel and look, making them appear as good as new.

If you’re to be considered for dental implant procedure, your gums must be healthy and your mouth should provide a strong enough foundation for the implants to the placed into.

There are three parts in total to implants. They include:

  • The implant itself: These are the structures that are placed onto your jaw
  • The abutment: This allows your tooth to remain properly in place
  • The crown: This is the artificial tooth that replaces the teeth that are missing or have become damaged

The Whole Outline of Dental Implant Treatment

If you’ve lost one or more teeth to decay or damage, a dental implant can help you. While it can take up to two to four months for the whole procedure to be completed, they generally have a good lifespan. When cared for properly, dental implants can last for many years.

Here’s the full outline of dental implant treatment:

  • The implant is added onto your jaw
  • A temporary tooth replaces your lost or damaged tooth
  • The implant merges with your jaw, which may take between two and six weeks
  • A cap is fitted on top of the implant
  • Your gums start to heal over the next few coming weeks
  • The replacement tooth is added and securely attached
